We could never Imagine that Work from Home can be possible before 2020. If we learned one thing in 2020 it's that remote work is possible. The myths that the virtual team are less productive, it's hard to connect over a screen or remote work reduces career growth has been busted.
According to a report, 50% of the Indian hybrids workers consider themselves as more productive when working remotely, more than 40% of the surveyed workers in the U.K., France and Germany Indicated that their productivity stayed the same, while more than 30% of Australian workers said that they were much more productive when working from home.
However, there are times when lines of communication have easily broken and steps are missed. It's the time when the gap in communication most frequently occurs. The ability to communicate effectively is the most essential skill in the virtual world. Although communication methods have evolved and we have all sorts of technical tools to help us, there are still times when communication gaps occur.
Why is that? It’s often because a key element in the transfer of information is missing. That gap might be the result of a misperception, an incorrect assumption, Overthinking etc. If you’ve ever been involved in a communication situation where things went poorly, it may have been because of a Communication Gap or miscommunication.
As the manager of a virtual team, you are likely to ask yourself how you can cultivate strong team culture in a remote world, create effective and efficient workflows, and combat loneliness and lack of motivation. Here are seven steps that can help strengthen the transfer of information and prevent communication gaps. 1- Share the Mic - When we work offscreen it's become very important to understand each other needs and infrastructure because we might not know in what condition he/she is working from so It's become very important to allow them to speak first. Allowing others to speak first doesn't mean you are losing your ground instead that shows one the quality of good leaders.
2- Stop Trying to Impress Others- I believe that it occurs mostly because of the lack of worth or need to be a better mindset, I need to be better than someone else or I need to prove that I'm faster better by using some heavy words discounting other people accomplishments etc. To maintain a good culture we should try to be happy when someone accomplished something whether it's big or small. A good leader should notice the insecurities and judgements of others compared to self and acknowledge them then and there. 3- Cultivate Curiosity- It's not always important to have the answer for all the questions that are there on the table, we should not hold the mindset that we know what he/she is going to speak to instead we should try to be open and excited about what's coming next judging others on their action is not harming them but to yourself as you are restricting yourself. 4- Stop Getting Distracted- I have experienced this while having google meet calls or one 1 one meetings In fact I have seen people having breakfast while being on the call, the only way to overcome this is to stay focused on the agenda of the meeting Intention or desired results for every interaction. I understand that while working from home it's very hard to stay focused all the time but take it one at a time, be there for the time being value others time or before getting into any call just be prepared. 5- Create Space- Create pauses in conversation you don't have to fill every single space even in an argument or disagreement you don't have to have the last word. People drift when every single space is filled so take a deep breath and just let it be, it's ok to feel discomfort or insecure. As Sundar Pichai said, "Let yourself feel Insecure from time, It will help you grow as an Individual". 6- Facilitate- Remote workers often tend to zone out or feel excluded from the conversation unless they’re compelled to actively participate. As a company that runs hybrid meetings all the time, it's very important to come forward take charge without seeming like you are taking charge also one should have the ability to direct that conversation in a meaningful way. 7- Supervision- In order to be a successful leader one should always listen to others and pay attention to what they are saying, they also see everyone in an organization as being of equal value. Developing enlightened leaders at all levels reduce some of the work employers face every day because of the volatile combination of the employees' access to social media with their possible bad judgement poor supervision.

I think even in this situation it can depend... for example how you approach the conversation can make a big difference on how effective that conversation goes
ReplyDeleteTrue, but one should always be prepared before getting into call or meetings
