Sourcing With Site: Command

Sourcing is the process of searching for qualified candidates through various online channels. In building your talent pipeline, It's very important you build your own sourcing strategy that targets the right candidates. Research shows that sourced candidates are more than 2 times as efficient as the ones who applied to our websites or job post for a particular position.

In today's world sourcing is more powerful and important than ever before due to the sheer amount of online profiles and data availability. The LinkedIn report shows that 90% of the candidates are open to learning more about the new opportunities, but only 36% of candidates actively search for a new job which means that one-third of the potential candidates are passive seekers.

I have been interviewing recruiters for quite some time now most of the time people will go with the traditional method of sourcing like using AND, OR, NOT, "", () and writing boolean for a particular position but lately if you have noticed LinkedIn has restricted these command we can't write and run a big boolean search anymore on LinkedIn. The one way to be more precise about our search is to have access to LinkedIn Recruiter but very few have access to it.

How do you find top talent? How can we get access to 810M people? also, what can be the alternative of finding candidates then LinkedIn? Using site: command and Xray search can help us go deeper into URLs or uncover a way to extract contact information from a variety of websites.

LinkedIn Xray Search

If we go and type the same boolean to our LinkedIn search we might not receive the result and here we got around 1,44,000 results of this search, even if put this boolean into LinkedIn recruiter we might not receive the result as getting result into recruiter account will also depend on how wide and big connection we hold. this way we can be more precise and get the exact result for a particular position also we don't have to depend on the LinkedIn recruiter.

Site: Command

Using site: operator I was able to look only at the results from LinkedIn. As you can see from the result that I was looking for a profile that has email addresses specifically gmail.com address.

Maybe we don't have to be much dependent on LinkedIn for getting contact information. we can try this site: operator to get details from meetup.com, wordpress.com github.com or stackoverflow.com etc.

Smackover Flow
Practice Makes Perfect

While using LinkedIn as an example to produce a profile there is a lot of other social networks that can be used site: command to uncover and connect with prospects. it's like we are not putting effort to uncover the talent because of the effectiveness of LinkedIn and that effectiveness is making us less effective.

Next time you come across a social network like Facebook (Meta), Twitter, GitHub try adding site: command to the mix and see what results it produces for you.
